The Beginnings of a Panko Manufacturer
The history of Upper Crust Enterprises, LLC begins with Founder Masashi Kawaguchi. Mr. Kawaguchi was the founder of Fishking Processors, Inc. (also known as Mrs. Friday's). He established Mrs. Friday's in 1955 in Los Angeles, where the company earned a reputation for its quality breaded seafood.
Mr. Kawaguchi introduced the art of Panko bread crumbs to the US in the 1960s in an effort to maintain its philosophy of innovation and high quality products. They began by importing these breadcrumbs from Japan but decided to venture into manufacturing the Panko bread crumbs in their own facility. They built a customized manufacturing facility in California, making the company the first Panko manufacturer in the US.
